My name is Joe, and I am pleased to be the host of SCAT club.

From a unique intersection of social work and naturalist field science, I have over 12 years of experience facilitating small and large groups in outdoor adventures, circles, education events, and community workshops.

I am a naturalist who has been sniffing scats, licking rocks, and poking dead things with sticks for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Oregon and have spent a lifetime feeding my never ending curiosity about the natural world’s web of ecology. I enjoy using the skills of track and sign interpretation to reveal stories in the land, and to have those stories challenge narratives of the west, and notions of “wild”. I work as a field scientist and naturalist based out of the larger Columbia Gorge. I hold a level 3 track and sign certification through CyberTracker North America, and lead tracking surveys for Cascadia Wild’s Wolverine Tracking Project.

As a social worker I specialized in therapeutic program development for outdoor programs, community education, and non-violent leadership. I help educate folks in navigating backcountry situations while upholding physical and emotional safety.
